Environmental Benefits of Retreading

Kal Tire retreads conserve and use resources responsibly. Compared to making a new tire, giving a tire a second or even third life:
Reduces scrap tires being sent to landfill
Uses 30% less resources
Avoids 100-150 kilograms of CO2 emissions
Uses only 26 litres of oil (compared to 83 litres making a new tire)

  • Verified by SCS Global, a leader in sustainability standards, using data from a Life Cycle Analysis conducted independently by a third party in accordance with ISO-14044

Your personalized Tire Program Sustainability Report enables you to see how far you are towards achieving your sustainability goals. With access to not only oil savings, but carbon, material waste and tire wear particles, you can demonstrate the steps you are taking in reducing your environmental footprint.

Devulcanization

Kal Tire collects millions of pounds of buffings per year from 10 retread plants across Canada. Through the devulcanization process, we are then reusing that material back into our retreading process, including OTR retreads, replacing 25% of the natural rubber, reducing the need for additional raw materials. Through engaging in a retread program with Kal Tire, you are helping to reduce CO2 and waste through circularity.
